The Minister of Education and Science opened a nanotechnology laboratory at Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University

On November 18, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhiy Shkarlet visited Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, where he opened the Center for Collective Use of Scientific Equipment “Laboratory of Nanotechnologies for Materials Science, Energy and Medicine”. The opening was also attended by the head of Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration Svitlana Onyschuk, director of the Department of Education, Science and Youth Policy of Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration Viktor Kimakovych, and representatives of the university administration.

The Center was established with the assistance of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the National Research Fund of Ukraine together with the G.V. Kurdyumov Institute for Metal Physics of the NAS of Ukraine, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Yuriy Fedkovych National University of Chernivtsi and Chernihiv Polytechnic National University, and Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University.

During the event, the Minister of Education and Science Serhiy Shkarlet thanked the scientists of the university and personally the rector Igor Tsependa for fruitful work for the development of national science.

The Center for Collective Use of Scientific Equipment will conduct high-quality advanced experimental research on the latest functional materials, in particular, for the energy and medical industries.

This is the first and the only in Ukraine set of the latest equipment for a comprehensive study of the properties of nanomaterials.

“This equipment has many capabilities. First of all, it opens opportunities for cooperation, opportunities for learning, opportunities to create something new – high-quality research or practical results, ” – said the director of the Center Volodymyr Kotsyubynsky.

The scientific equipment of the Laboratory is of a very high level. It helps to carry out research of elemental and structural analyzes of properties of materials. In particular, it is an X-ray diffractometer, an X-ray fluorescence analyzer, an optical spectrometer in the visible ultraviolet region and a stand for electrochemical research. This equipment has many features. It allows you to see and analyze how the atoms are placed, and therefore allows you to influence the properties of materials. This is important for energy as well as for any other industry that uses functional materials. The complex of devices allows to make different analyzes from different parties at the same time and to receive the exact information which then will result in a high-quality product.

“This is another laboratory opened by our scientists. It is interesting because we see a new state policy concerning science. After all, the laboratory was opened thanks to the National Research Fund of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for the funds that were allocated. Thus, the concept is to build equipment around powerful scientific schools that will allow them to conduct world-class research. This laboratory brought together such universities as: Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Yuriy Fedkovych National University of Chernivtsi and Chernihiv Polytechnic National University, G V Kurdyumov Institute for Metal Physics of the NAS of Ukraine. Thus, groups of scientists from many regions are beginning to conduct joint research, ” said Rector Igor Tsependa.

Also during his visit at the Precarpathian National University, the Minister got acquainted with the exhibition of student art works “Ukraine through the eyes of youth”, visited the Center for Innovative Technologies “PNU Ecosystem”. This Center was established within the Erasmus + KA2 project, in which for the first time in the history of Ukrainian universities European partners granted the status of grantholder of this European project to Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University.

Serhiy Shkarlet also got acquainted with the Academy of Freestyle Wrestling of Prykarpattia (the center of training of champions of Ukraine, Europe and the world) on the basis of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University.
